March 16, Varna: The premiere of the best film of the Oscar Awards this year - "The Green Book"
From the 15th to 22nd halls of the Festival and Congress Center (FCC) will welcome a selection of 18 films that toured the biggest cinema capitals throughout the year, such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice.
Varna. The taste of cinema fans will be overwhelmed by a long list, including the big Oscar winner – “The Green Book” (March 16, 19:00 with Bulgarian actor Dimitar Marinov playing Russian) and “Cold War” (22 - March, 18:00) - nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.
A place in the program also finds the best of the alternative cinema by the provocateur Lars von Trier and his new film "The House Jack Builds" (March 18, 20:00). The film is a grim story, presented in a philosophical and at times a fun way. An internal monologue roaming the thoughts of a serial killer, but also those of the Danish director. Connoisseurs of art of Trier should be prepared for a great deal from their familiar standing on the edge of perceptions, emotions and aesthetics.
The range of titles passes through Scandinavian, Middle Eastern and European cinema with a mandatory stop in Bulgaria with the films "Photo with Yuki" by Lachezar Avramov and "Piglet" by Dragomir Sholev. From distant Japan, meanwhile, arrives this year's winner of the "Golden Palm" - " Shoplifters"by Hirokazu Koreeda.
Another interesting film is a coproduction between Germany and Azerbaijan - "The Bra" (March 19, 20: 15h.) Of Veit Helmer. The engineer, Nurlan, drives the train to Baku for the last time before retiring. Along the way through the neighborhoods of the city, his train touches a blue bra from somebody's space. To escape from his lonely existence, Nurlan is on the most adventurous journey in her life: to find the owner of this curious lingerie.
Again to the east, but this time in Iran, we take the band "Tehran, a city of love" (16 March, 15:00). Leaning on the theme of unhappy love - a storyline in traditional Persian tales - the film is a playful, thought-provoking triptych for people looking for love, reminiscent of the inconsistent nature of human happiness.
Fans of documentaries will not be ignored again. This year, not one, but two titles will be presented in this category; "PJ Harvey; A Dog Called Money"(March 18, 18:00) and "Six Musicians and the City" March 22, 19:00), which is a reverberation from the organizers to the great Armenian diaspora in Varna.
This year's edition of Sofia Film Fest marks the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival. The opening will be followed by the traditional live music party in the FCC lobby. The next day (16th, March) will be held another party, specially organized on the occasion of the anniversary - on stage Rotunda at Drama Theater "Stoyan Bachvarov" in the music company of La Migra.
The program is long and the organizers from Artin Vision invite all fans of quality cinema to get acquainted with it on the Facebook page of the festival. Tickets are on sale from March 1 at the Festival and Congress Center Cashier, as well as online.
