70% of tourists in high category hotels in Varna are foreigners; the growth of Bulgarian tourists is 7.4%

Varna. Bulgarian tourists in hotels in the Varna region increased by 7.4% in July compared to the same month last year. Revenues from overnight stays for the month amount to BGN 90.6 million, according to the statistics bureau in our sea capital. In July 2019, 68.4% of the total number of nights spent by foreign nationals and 23.5% - of Bulgarians were spent in 4 and 5 star hotels. 22.1% of the nights spent by Bulgarian citizens and 21.3% - by foreigners were spent in 3-star accommodation establishments, while in the other 1 and 2-star accommodation establishments they were respectively 54.4 and 10.3%.

In July 2019, the most overnight stays were made by guests from Romania - 260.0 thousand, from Germany - 246.5 thousand, from Poland - 184.6 thousand, from Russia - 93.1 thousand and from Ukraine - 60.1 thousand. In July 2019, 453 hotels with more than 10 beds were functioning in Varna District - hotels, motels, campsites, chalets and other short-stay accommodation. The number of rooms in them is 28.6 thousand and the beds - 69.5 thousand. Compared to July 2018, the total number of accommodation establishments operating during the period decreased by 0.4% and the number of beds - by 1.7%.

The total number of nights spent in the district in all accommodation establishments, registered in July 2019, was 1 435.7 thousand, or 6.6% less than in the same month of the previous year, with the largest decrease in nights (by 9.9%) was observed in 3 star accommodation. Out of the total number of nights, 208.0 thousand are from Bulgarian citizens and 1 227.7 thousand are from foreigners.

In July 2019, the number of overnight stays in accommodation units in Varna District decreased by 1.5% compared to the same month of 2018 and reached 261.8 thousand. Of all overnight stays, 19.5% are Bulgarians, with the majority of them (48.4%) spending nights at 1 and 2 star accommodations and spending an average of 4.6 nights.

The number of foreign arrivals is 210.8 thousand, with the highest share of visitors from Romania - 26.6%, followed by those from Germany - by 17.5%, from Poland - by 14.1% and from Russia - by 4.9%.

4 and 5 star hotels are preferred by 69.2% of foreign nationals, with the average number of nights spent in them being 5.8.

The total occupancy of beds in accommodation establishments in the district in July 2019 is 66.6%, which is the highest in 4 and 5 star hotels - 76.8%, followed by 3 star accommodations - 64.6% and in places for 1 and 2 star accommodation - 45.9%. In comparison with the same month of the previous year, the occupancy of the beds decreased by 3.5 percentage points.
