Program for the visit of Pope Francis in Bulgaria: 5-7 May

The press service of the Holy See publishes a working version of the program of the apostolic journey of the Holy Father in Bulgaria. The apostolic journey of His Holiness to Bulgaria will take place from 5 to 7 May 2019 in Sofia and Rakovski, and on May 7 he will travel to the capital of Northern Macedonia - Skopje.

Pope Francis will arrive in Sofia at 10 am on May 5 and will be welcomed by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister and the Holy Father will hold a meeting on which the Prime Minister will welcome him.

The program continues with a ceremony for the official reception of the square in front of the Presidency, followed by the meeting of Pope Francis with the President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev.

On the first day of his apostolic trip to Bulgaria, the Holy Father will meet with His Holiness Patriarch Neofit and members of the Holy Synod at the Synodal Palace.

Later Pope Francis will pronounce his traditional Sunday prayer "Queen of Heaven" (Regina coeli). Each Sunday, this prayer is traced live by millions of people around the world, as on May 5 the Pope will turn to them from the Bulgarian capital.

Focus on Pope Francis' program on 6 May is the visit of the town of Rakovski, where the largest Catholic community in Bulgaria lives. In the church "The Most Holy Heart of Jesus" the Holy Father will celebrate the world with the first communion of children from all over Bulgaria, and a meeting with the Catholic community will take place in the Church of St. Archangel Michael.

The apostolic journey of Pope Francis in Bulgaria will end with a peace event of the Holy Father in the presence of representatives of various religious denominations in Bulgaria at Nezavisimost Square.
